Crocus speciosus

The finest autumn-flowering crocus for UK gardens, producing goblet-shaped blue-violet flowers with darker veining and prominent orange stigmas from September to November. Flowers appear before the leaves. Naturalises well in grass and light woodland. Much easier than saffron crocus and equally beautiful.

How to grow crocus speciosus

Plant 8cm deep in July or August. One of the easiest autumn crocuses. Naturalises freely in grass and under deciduous trees. Flowers appear leafless — the foliage follows in spring. Plant near paths where the surprise autumn flowers can be appreciated.
